Chantauvent Guest House

We stayed in a large chain hotel in the North of the Island before coming here. We didn't like it, it felt a little like a prison and I know some people like all inclusive, sit on your bum get given everything holidays but that's not us (and wasn't our choice). Coming here was a breath of fresh air. I'd describe it as "rustic" I guess. Our room looked out over the sea, we had a seating area outside and the room itself was simple but had everything we needed. I slept way better here than in the hotel. Across the road there was a pool which we used later in our stay and the property is literally round the corner from our favourite restaurant, various tuck shops and the beach. On our last day we had a late flight (22:45) so I asked if we could get a late check out. The lady I spoke to said sure, I'm thinking maybe 12pm, 2pm or similar but when I asked how late she said "until you need to leave" which was fantastic and unlike a larger hotel, free of charge. Then our flight got bumped to 01:35 in the morning and they still allowed us to keep the room until we left at 10pm. I know it's winter over there so not as busy but we appreciated the flexibility and I'm sure they would offer this again if it's possible. I can't comment on breakfast or dinner as we preferred to head out into Blue Bay for this but I can say that when we come back to Mauritius, we'll be heading here again. Thank you :-)

Location... Location... Location... This is our second time staying at Chantauvent. The guesthouse has 2 parts, one on the beach and another just across the road, which we preferred to be across the road. It was less windy when the wind picked up. The hotel has the beach front access and the jetty just in front of the guesthouse, which you can jump off and snorkel into the paradise.. Close to the airport, which we also preferred this. There is no need to drive for an hour and a half to get to the other side of the island.

We stayed 3 days in a room nr. 5 with a sea view. Beautiful “old bones” with a vaulted ceiling and lovely vintage bent wood & rattan furniture and a small terrace. The see view is spectacular and is literally 10 m to the sea straight to coral reefs.

We liked the garden and restaurant with sea view where we enjoyed breakfast with birds sharing our meals, also romantic dinners with ocean view and waves crushing. The staff were very friendly and helpful.

It is very close both to Mahebourg and the airport, so I spent my last 3 days here, before flying home. Despite the proximity, the taking offs and landings were not disturbing, the place was quiet at night. The breakfast was great at the seaview terrace, turquoise, birds, sunshine, very relaxing mornings. The beach in front of the hotel is narrow and has some rocks, but if you walk a few hundreds meters left or right you can find fully sandy beach access. Also you can just snorkel or take a kayak in front of the hotel, a lot to see underwater, coralls, fish. The hotel's snack bar is just accross the street and offers westersn style food throughout the whole day, does not close in the afternoon. I was upgraded to a seaview room which is an extra bonus. If you do not expect a five star resort then you will enjoy your stay here.
